I hear you every so often on the radio and thought I would ask a question about a person I've been dating. I'm a 35-year-old woman and have been seeing this man for almost 4 months. Since we are both currently divorced ( two years each ) we have many common views about dating especially not rushing into anything commited. I see him once or twice a week, sometimes more sometimes less, our work schedules don't help. He keeps in contact with me every day, calling to talk or just leave a message a couple times a day. I have stopped dating other guys, even though this is not something that we talked about so I don't know if it is mutual. I would be interested in a relationship with him, but don't wanna push anything, I just want to know if I am wasting my time since things the past couple weeks have felt a little off. I just get a feeling he is not being straight with me. There is someone else I am going to start dating who I met over the summer, but don't know if I will be throwing away a good thing, or heading in the right direction...what do you think?
Your intuition is your greatest gift. How many times have you met someone and thought, "there's just something about that person that rubs me the wrong way" only to find out down the line that the red flags you sensed were right on?
You answered your question very clearly in your inquiry to me. You mention that you have decided to stop seeing other people without knowing if the man you were dating was planning to do the same. Did you have hopes that he would stop seeing other people if you took the action first?
If so, it seems that you weren't making your decisions for the right reasons. You don't have complete trust in this person and you have a gut feeling that he isn't being straight with you.
Don't shut yourself off from other opportunities. It's clear that he isn't. If he really wants to commit to you...don't worry, you'll know. He won't want any competition!
Cut your losses now and set the bird free. Remember, if he comes back he was always yours. If he doesn't, he was never yours to begin with!
