Ask Marisa

Dear Marisa:

I have been working with the same company for almost 10 years now, and I have had many ups & downs. The most recent has been that I was demoted (again) and I am not sure as to whether I should stay with this company or not. I am a fifty year old male. I have had other offers from other newer companies but I have so much to give up, like vacations, salary, 401K, sick time, etc. What do you suggest? Do you see me retiring from this company?

Herb

Dear Herb,

First you have to ask yourself, "What do I feel I deserve?" If you don't have the utmost confidence that you are worthy of a promotion and/or recognition, then you aren't going to get it.

Sometimes in order for us to make changes in life, other things have to come to an end or most often...a screeching halt. This is the universe's way of telling you: "Wake up! You're getting demoted again. When are you going to listen to yourself and make a change?"

Herb, sorry to say...but the lesson will keep presenting itself until you learn it. Granted, change is tough..but great risks will reap great rewards. Consider this a blessing and move forward.

Stability doesn't equal happiness. It's only a piece of the pie in the game of life. So, consider this 'game over' and PLAY AGAIN!

Best of Luck,
